Organic Gardening

If you’ve always wanted to grow your own food, but felt intimidated, I am here to help! First of all, let me state clearly that I am not an expert gardener, I do not have a horticulture degree and I do not grow the perfect garden. I do, however, love to learn new things, enjoy experimenting and am willing to go into my garden each season with ambition tempered with a strong dose of reality! If we get some veggies, then great. If we have terrible weather and get overrun with pests and the garden produces nothing, then that’s ok too. It’s not ideal, but there is only so much you can control with gardening and keeping perspective is important.

I will say that after about 12 years of backyard gardening, I have never had a year of complete and total garden failure. There’s always something that does great. One year, I may have cucumbers coming out my ears and the next year, the cucumbers wither up and die almost immediately. I don’t always understand what causes these differences, but it’s just a fact I’ve come to accept.

Of course, there are plants that traditionally do well for me and I plant those year after year. Lemon boy tomatoes are one. I do have to fight off the squirrels, who love to pick them green and leave then sitting around my property, but aside from that, I can grow a pretty good crop of lemon boys.

Sometimes, pictures (and videos) speak way more than words so I’ll leave you to watch a couple videos I’ve made. Please leave comments with questions on the videos if you want some additional guidance.

Happy gardening!
