Cheeseburger Pie (Carnivore, Keto, Paleo)

Cheeseburger Pie (Carnivore, Keto, Paleo)

This recipe has become a weekly staple in my house. It’s really delicious, easy to put together, uses the same foods we eat all the time (hamburger, eggs, cheese and bacon), but combined in this way, it feels like a special dish. Another great thing about this recipe is that everyone can customize their portion with the toppings they like. You can even serve it over a bed of lettuce if you like that burger bowl format and are not eating carnivore.

This is my husband’s plate – I made him sweet potato fries in the air fryer and gave him some salad greens with a quick homemade thousand island dressing. That dressing is also delicious as a topping for the cheeseburger pie.

The recipe is really basic and very, very flexible. I like it best with all the ingredients listed below, but you can leave out the cheese, extra seasoning or add more! It’s really up to you. If you find you only have six eggs instead of eight, that’s totally fine! Again, it’s really flexible. Figure out how to make it the way your family likes best. Bonus, it heats up beautifully!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. bacon fat
  • 2 lbs. Ground Beef
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder optional
  • 1 tsp. onion powder optional
  • 2 tsp. salt or to taste
  • 1 tsp. black pepper or to taste
  • 8 large eggs
  • 4 oz. cream cheese optional
  • 1/4 cup crumbled, cooked bacon
  • 2 tsp. Franks Hot Sauce optional
  • 2 cups shredded cheese of choice

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Heat large, oven proof skillet (cast iron is best) over medium high heat. Add bacon fat and swirl to coat bottom of pan.
  • Brown ground beef until no longer pink. Add salt, pepper and all additional seasonings if you so choose.
  • Add cream cheese if using and stir around until melted.
  • In a separate bowl, beat eggs. Add to skillet and mix in well.
  • If you're using bacon and you want it to remain tender, you can mix it in now. Alternatively, sprinkle it on top if you like it a little crispy. I like it crispy so I add it in the next step.
  • Top meat and egg mixture with cheese and then bacon and place in the oven. Bake for 15 minutes or until set (stick a knife in the middle to make sure there is no more liquid) and cheese is melted and slightly browned.
  • Serve as is or with your favorite burger toppings – pickles, sugar free ketchup, mustard, etc.
