Asian Style Garlicky Green Beans

Asian Style Garlicky Green Beans

I’ve been finding these really nice, thin, washed and ready to go green beans in my local Aldi and Trader Joe’s. Maybe you’ve seen them in your store too? They make a super simple side dish for weeknights that go with just about anything. My family is always in the mood for Asian flavors so I created this recipe and they ask for it every single week. I’m happy to oblige!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. cleaned and trimmed fresh green beans
  • 1 Tbsp. ghee or avocado oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
  • 1 Tbsp. coconut aminos
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Rinse beans, trim any stems and pat completely dry.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. I always use a cast iron for this, but any non-coated skillet will work. Add ghee or oil and swirl to coat pan.
  • Sprinkle on some salt and pepper and stir. Remember that these are fresh beans, not canned, and so they have no seasoning. You will need at least a quarter teaspoon of salt.
  • Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until you see some blistering on the beans. I cook my beans for a total of 10-12 minutes typically, but you may like yours more or less done. Just taste one and see if it's done to your liking. Then move onto the next step.
  • When the beans are cooked to your liking, reduce heat to medium, add in the minced garlic and coconut aminos. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes more, but be careful not to burn the garlic. That's it! Serve hot! These are delicious leftover as well so go ahead and make a double batch.
